Who is Trunks? He is the son of Vegeta and Bulma and also a Saiyajin, even if his hair colour is lavender and his eyes are blue. One of his distinguishing marks is that he often uses a sword for fighting.
The Trunks of the future ("Mirai Trunks") is a shy, calm and caring person; Kid Trunks in the past is his complete opposite: loud and quite cocky.
Who is Son-Gohan? Son-Gohan is the older son if Son-Goku and Chichi; named after Goku's grandfather. Chichi wanted a smart son, who becomes a famous scientist one time, so the little Son-Gohan had to study, study, study.
The young boy changed from timid and shy to a brave and strong fighter. Of course, he inherited his excellent fighting skills from his father.
Their relationship: Here we have to distinguish between the Son-Gohan x Trunks relationship of the future and the relationship of these to in the past.
Future: Or better, "the time of Mirai Trunks". As we all know, they lived in a world of destruction, where the Androids killed almost all of the Z-warriors. Execpt Trunks and Son-Gohan. They became friends and Son-Gohan started to train Trunks. They liked each other very much and spent a lot of time together. I'm sure, Trunks admired Son-Gohan for his strenght and his positivity.
Son-Gohan also cared a lot for Trunks. Their relationship is more like brotherhood than friendship.
Their story, when the Androids killed Son-Gohan and Trunks became Super Saiyajin in his rage. (In the "Trunks Special" Anime; in the manga series, where Akira Toriyama made "Trunks, the story", Trunks had already become a SSJ while he trained with Son-Gohan).
Past: Son-Gohan and Trunks don't have such a close relationship here. Son-Gohan is a young boy at about 9, when Trunks was born. And when Trunks is old enough to fight, he trains with his best friend Son-Goten (Gohan's younger brother), not with Gohan. They know and like each other, but nothing more. I think, Trunks don't has the much respect of Son-Gohan, like in the future, maybe because of the ugly Saiyaman-outfit... ;-)
